Triple Green Glowing Smoothie (with a kick!)

A while back, my friend gifted me a book called The Beauty Detox Solution by Kimberly Snyder. The poor thing sat on my bookshelf for three and a half years, collecting dust.

If I’m being honest, I believe it was the title that turned me off:
The Beauty Detox Solution: a remedy for middle-age women seeking the fountain of youth...and a clean colon? At least that’s how I unfairly judged it—solely by the cover without even as much as a glimpse at the table of contents.

If I’m being even more honest, I’ve always detested descriptive words like anti-aging and age-defying. As if the physical signs of aging are something to be covered up and worse, ashamed of.

The outside is a reflection of the inside

It turns out Kimberly Snyder viewed beauty through a different lens than what I initially suspected. She believes that the word "health" is synonymous with the word "beauty." A healthy body is a beautiful body. Healthy skin, which is a reflection of our internal health, is beautiful skin. Her definition of beauty is that it should be deep, lasting and magnetic, and grow from the inside out.

Now this, I could get behind.

After all, our skin is our largest organ. It tells the story of the quality of food we feed our living, breathing temple. Vegetables, leafy greens, and antioxidant-rich fruits yield a healthy body for sure, but also beautiful skin. In other words, when you put the good stuff in, you will harvest better health...which shows up on your skin.

Put yet another way: you reap what you sow.

The Beauty Detox Solution has a bunch of wholesome plant-based recipes to enjoy. Most are simple and require just a handful of ingredients.

An "inside-changing" smoothie

Because I’m always in the market for a new and improved smoothie recipe, the one that caught my eye was Kimberly’s Glowing Green Smoothie. Full of greens, herbs, and just the right amount of fruit to please the taste buds, this smoothie has been the new staple in my life. And yes, I’ve noticed a difference in my skin. It’s a little brighter and the dark circles under my eyes aren’t so dark anymore. What I really love about this shake is that it gives me that little extra edge I need, in both body and mind.

The recipe makes around 56 ounces—about five 12-ounce servings—and holds up very nicely in the refrigerator.

Let me be clear, I do not consider this a full meal by itself. I include it as part of my lunch, drinking it first to take the edge off of my hunger. I usually pair it with a container of raw veggies and a low sugar nutrition bar, like Raw Rev Glo.

I changed up the original recipe just a bit by adding fresh turmeric and ginger, lessening the fruit, and doubling the quantity of fresh herbs.

I hope you love it as much as I do! 🥬
