I know what it's like to struggle with food.


It's been a long-standing dream of mine to create a safe space for those struggling with their food and health. A place where you can come to feel understood, supported, free, inspired, and enough.

I know what it's like to struggle with food. From 1997 to 2000 my relationship with food was one of war. And it all started with one little diet I tried to help me shed the few pounds I gained from partying and eating all the wrong foods. 

The restrictive nature of the diet and the focus on calories caused me to become unnaturally preoccupied with food. I thought about all of the foods I wasn't allowed to have while resenting the foods I was allowed to have.

As a result, I participated in almost daily secret binges on the forbidden foods... you know, cake, potato chips, pizza, ice cream?

And after every binge I would sink into a deep pool of guilt and shame. 

Not a day went by where I didn't ache to tell someone. But I was so ashamed that I didn't dare. Never before did I feel this hopeless and alone. 

All I wanted was for things to be the way they used to be. I wanted to wake up feeling free of sugar cravings, full of energy, vibrant, and healthy. I wanted to go back to a time where food was just food, not an object of obsession. 



If I could sum up what I was longing for in one word, it would be PEACE.


Peace is defined as:

  1. freedom from disturbance; tranquility.
  2. a state or period in which there is no war or a war has ended.
I searched for this inner freedom in countless nutrition books, diet programs, and self-help cassette tapes (remember those?). When I got really desperate I turned to a dangerous, now-banned appetite suppressant called Metabolife. All in the name of controlling my wild appetite and breaking out of my self-made food prison.  



But with every new program, I grew more disconnected, confused, and food-addicted.

Something else happens too. A subtle, yet unsettling transition of power occurs. Whereas before, you were at peace with and in control of your food—eating when hungry and stopping when satisfied—now, food begins to control you!  

You find yourself thinking about food more than normal.

It feels like you're locked in prison, wrapped in chains, unable to fully enjoy life...with no way out.

So, when you are inspired to do something big or small, that spark is your Higher power breathing into you, giving you the fuel necessary to accomplish your goals. 

All you have to do is invite it in at regular intervals throughout the day and it will be the wind for your sail. 


The seed of well-being is planted inside of you, but in order for it to sprout you must feed your outer self and inner self. 


Peace with your food, body, and health happens when you stop trying to do it alone.

Does it not then stand to reason that you are endowed with the power to sprout your seed of well-being and bring it to life? Like healthy blood sugar, more energy, a healthy relationship with food? 


Feeding your outer self  

Feeding your outer self means honoring your body with wholesome food.

It means building your meals around nutritious, delicious, life-giving foods. 

It doesn't mean forbidding yourself of your favorite foods (because that will blow up right in your pretty little face).

Neglect your outer self and your seed of well-being cannot grow. Your health has no choice but to deteriorate. 


Feeding your inner self 

To feed your inner self means engaging in a daily practice of renewing your faith in a Higher power so that it can work in you. 

When you take intentional steps to feed your inner self, you are inviting your Higher power in. Just like a good meal satisfies physical hunger for food, feeding your inner self satisfies your spiritual hunger. And that is everything.

Feeding your inner self cures your identity amnesia. You may feel weak, alone, hopeless, helpless, broken, and forgotten, but that is not who you really are. Who you really are is an adored, loved, powerful extension of your Higher power. 

Neglect your inner self and you'll be back to your old ways by tomorrow afternoon.
